ONE BODY MANY MEMBERS

1Co 12:12

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

My comments; The manifestation for the holy spirit is given to each and every member of this Body of Christ. ! Cor 12 :7 « But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. »

Yet we need the Head in the Body of Christ, the total assembly of all beleivers. We need the Lord to direct the ministries. We need the Spirit of God leading and guiding Christ and we need Him, HIs spirit distrubuting and placing the manifestation where it is most needed

We have been given nine ways or facets of how this gift of the holy spirit can shine. But we mist remember all of it starts with listening the the word of wisdom and word of knowledge. That is where the Lord can direct us and show us what is being distributed to each member at any particular moment.

1Co 12:11

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing G1244 to every man severally as he will.

If we do not and go off using our called « gifts » the way we think we are gifted and not consult with the head, Christ for wisdom we shall be divided by our fleshly pride. That is what Paul was addressing in this letter to the Corinthians. Pride causing divisions. All because they forgot the Head of their church was Christ.

We have one manifestation not nine. We have nine ways to manisfest it, not nine different « gifts » Note that that word « gifts » was added by the King James translaters in verse 1 of Chapter 12. It was to help our understaning, but never in the words of Paul. Even with good intentions it misdirects the whole subjet matter Paul was covering.

It was his intent to explain spiritual matters not gifts, since the gift was given. Christ in us, the gift of holy spirit. And now what do we do with it.

The word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, divers tongues and interpretation of tongues are all the ways that the Spirit will distrinute His power. But only for those who will submit their will (pride) to His will (in submission)

Paul went on to list nine ways it is manifested but it is called « the manifestation « for a reason. It is not plural because they all are directed together from the Head Christ. It is HE that distributes them where the need is. And HE is the only one who knows and sees. We are wise to begin manifesting His spirit in us by first listening. That is the word of wisdom. It is not wise to take credit for any gift as if we created it and then fight for positions in the Body. That is how all divisions start. Pride. Pride always fails.

Rom 8:15

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Rom 8:16

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

That manifestation that showed to Peter and all the world that we are Children of God was and is speaking in tongues.

Rom 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Our requests for wisdom and guidance are best sent to the Spirit through spiritual ways. We have the ability to speak spirit to Spirit as we pray and speak in tongues of men or angels. This « praying in the spirit » as Jude wrote :

Jde 1:20

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

And then we can receive and be taught by revelation from Christ, as Paul learned the Mystery of the Gospel.

Gal 1:12

For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Perhaps we can learn more about how the Spirit divides the working of all these different parts of the manifestation, to manifest the Light of Christ to the world. We could learn a little more from the study of how « divide » or « distribute » has been used by God in His words.

The original word « divide « in 1 Cor 12 :11 « dividing to every man severally as he (the Spirit) will. » was the Greek word « diaireo » meaning « to take apart, divide, distribute » and it woudl be a help to remember it is our Father who is the giver.

With that we can compare some places « diaireo » occurs not only in the new testament but in the uses in the old testament LXX.

In the new testament it was used only in this verse and in Luke 15 :12

Luk 15:12

And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided (diaireo) unto them his living

Here is a parable that illustrates the loving Father distributing to his son. And even though his son wasted the gifts given to him. His father forgave him and had compassion. God as a good father loves his children unconditionally. God is full of grace.

In the old testament LXX we see it used as divide here

Psa 136:13

To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever

The noun for distribute or divide is diairesis and it is used only In Corinthinas 12, 3 times as the noun dividing. And once as the verb to divide.

1) There is a dividing up of gifts (charisma) meaning gifts of Grace. But they all come from the same Spirit. The Holy Spirit who is God.

1Co 12:4

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

The first gift of Grace is eternal life. And it is the most important.

Rom 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift G5486 of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

verse 4 speaks of the charismata gifts that are distributed, and gifts are individually given. Each person receives his own gifts, which include salvation (Rom. 6:23), each person’s gift ministry (i.e., the personal ministry one has been given by the Lord, Eph. 4:7-13), healing (1 Cor. 12:9, 28, 30), and even an individual’s particular sexual drive (1 Cor. 7:7).

2) There is a distribution of services to the Body

1Co 12:5

And there are differences of administrations(diakonia services or ministries), but the same Lord.

It is the Lord Jesus Christ who manages the Body and how the gifts of grace are to be used.

Eph 4:7

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift (dorea)of Christ.

HE is our underserved treasure. A gift that cannot be earned. A gift that should never have been given except for love. A gift of love and He lives in us as the holy spirit. He is the head that must coordinate all the ministries that serve the well fare of this Body

2Co 9:15

Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift (dorea)

. Act 10:45

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift (dorea) of the Holy Ghost.

And when we are baptised in the holy spirit we are filled with Christ who is the holy spirit.

Rom 12:5

So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Rom 12:6

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7

Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

We see the gift of Christ. Eternal life given to us by God and expressed and guided with the Wisdom of the Lord Christ our head.

3) And we see a dividing up of the energy and working of God as He manifests the Light of Christ through all of us

1Co 12:6

And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

But it is the same God who is the source of all energy!

4) And God who is The Spirit who gave His son as a man.We must never forget it is only by the grace of the One who does all these works through us. One God and one source, One Lord and one Head and it is there decision and will where and when each person or member will be called to minister and in what particular way.

1Co 12:11

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Isa 9:3

\

Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide(Diaireo) the spoil.

There is joy when the gifts of God are distributed and shared
