Last Days

Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting

Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

It was on this day that the disciples were filled to capacity with the Gift of the Father. That Christ was sent into their hearts by the gift of the Holy spirit which is Christ. And this power or ability promise by Jesus Himself was poured our on the world. Now they began to speak in languages they did not know with their brains. The words were inspired. Here this day they were in the language of the visitors to Jerusalem. But the same ability continues to be manifested and witnessed today. Paul said that God would give languages of the tribes of man or even angels

1Co 13:1 NET If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. But the basis is the Rock and that is Love.

Act 2:4 NET “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled themIt was the Spirit of Christ that gave them the ability”

Act 2:6 “When this sound occurred, a crowd gathered and was in confusion, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. This day was the beginning of the witness of Christ to the world and it started with a miracle. God choses the language we speak when we speak in tongues”

Rom 8:16 “The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are God’s children.”

Act 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.”

This was the baptism they were waiting for, This was the day they were able to begin spreading the Gospel around the world as recorded in Acts, First Jerusalem then Judea and Samaria and then every corner of the planet. But they were not the witnesses, but the Holy spirit living in them was.

Act 2:7 Completely baffled, they said, “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?

The first day was stated with this miracle and it opened the door to the Gospel. The fact that these men could not naturally speak in all these languages, But the holy spirit could and they yielded to it.

Act 2:8 “And how is it that each one of us hears them in our own native language?”

They were accused by some of being drunk, but Peter took the lead to speak the truth. He was speaking by the power of the holy spirit giving him the words in the language understood by the speaker and the audience….this is prophecy and is listed in 1 Corinthians 12 as being one of the nine parts of the Spirit’s way of showing it self real in the un real world.

But it started with this miracle or phenomena of them speaking all these foreign languages without language courses.Peter went on to explain what was happening in the Hebrew or Aramaic language.

Act 2:14But Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and addressed them: “You men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, know this and listen carefully to what I say.

Act 2:16 “But this is what was spoken about through the prophet Joel:”

I have heard It taught that this was “like” that which was spoken but that is not true. I think this is the dispensional and futurist theology creeping in. But check your own texts and interlinears….IT was never said “like” but IS! So many have been taught that these signs are future but I is definite that they were fulfilled that day when the new Body of Christ began here on that Pentecost

Act 2:17 “And in the last days it will be,’ God says, ‘that I will pour out my Spirit on all people, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.”

Many teach that these “last days” are in the future and run to the book of Revelation for more information. But it is right here:

Heb 1:2 “in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world.T”

The same words in Greek. The same term is “these last days” started when Jesus His son began to speak 2000 years ago already and He is still speaking through the gift of the Holy spirit until He returns in person to judge the living and the rejectors. Yes we are in the last days no doubt, but so weren’t they on this Pentecost, and before when God began talking to them through the presence of Jesus in the world. The last days have been at least 2000 years long and may continue another 2000 or 2 years. We cannot know, but be ready we can. AND if we are saved why is it important?

Act 2:18 “Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.”

And this is what Peter was doing. Peter was bringing the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world. God wanted to pour his spirit on all mankind. And here it was being poured out! God repeats important points as we do when we want to emphasize the important things. He repeats “I will pour out my Spirit” and this is the day on this Pentecost. Now people will receive revelation by visions and speak by the holy spirit in prophecy. Now on this day all through the history of the building of the body of Christ. Act 2:19And I will perform wonders in the sky above and miraculous signs on the earth below, blood and fire and clouds of smoke.

Act 2:20 “The sun will be changed to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.”

Act 2:21 “And then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'”

And that is the only message we really need. Some will call on the Lord Jesus and be saved. Some will not and chose hell or death for ever. IT starts by being a sheep and a sheep hears the Shepherd’s voice and when they feel lost they call BAh Bah! The goats run away.

It starts with calling because you believe in Him. The rest is by growth and grace. The figures used are indicative of wars, and conflagrations, and earthquakes. As these things are Matthew 24 applied to the destruction of Jerusalem; as they actually occurred previous to that event (see the notes on Matthew 24), it may be supposed that the prophecy in Joel had an immediate reference to that. This often is relegated to the future when Christ returns and then we are taught a lot of speculations about the Apocalypse.. But the same teachers always forget that Jesus warned the Jewish church to get out of town and run to the hills, when the Romans would come In Matthew 24. This can also refer to future occurances maybe, but it definitely was a true description of the siege of Jerusalem and the burning of the temple in 70AD. That was only a few decades after this day of Pentecost. The Lord continued to try to save His people from the destruction coming to their religion.
